Things You'll Need:
- Large open outdoor area
- Hard flat surface
- Water source
-
Step 1
Check your local regulations regarding fireworks. Some areas don't allow fireworks inside city limits, or may only prohibit specific types. In addition, if your county has a burn ban imposed, you may not be able to legally shoot fireworks anywhere in the county.
-
Step 2
Read all of the warnings and instructions on the cake firework. Keep a bucket or two of water and a hose with a spray nozzle nearby in case of fire.
-
Step 3
Find a large open area that is free of trees, power lines and buildings. Have a flat place on which to place the cake firework. If you simply place it on the ground, it could tip over when it begins to shoot out fireworks. Ideally, you need to place the firework on a flat, sturdy board or on concrete. Make sure that the firework doesn't wobble.
-
Step 4
Make sure that all people and animals are safely away from the lighting area before you light the fuse. When you do light the fuse, get away quickly.
-
Step 5
Approach the cake firework with caution when it appears to be finished. Approach it from the side and tip it over away from you with your foot or a long object such as a gardening hoe.

on 6/20/2009 Also, don't use a lighter to set off fireworks, you'll burn your fingers and you need to get too close to the fireworks. Use something called a punk. They are dirt cheap!! Don't shot fireworks with-out them.
You can get them here: http://usfireworks.biz/category/punk.htm
