How to Juggle One Club

After learning to juggle balls, your next step toward becoming a master juggler is learning to work with clubs. These oddly-shaped objects are easy to grip, but they're devilishly hard to handle during tricks. Before trying the classic three-club cascade, consider working with just one club first. Using a single club lets you focus on your grip and tossing technique without having to manage the actual flow of juggling.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Hold the club in your good hand near its center of balance. Starting here helps you get the grip down before getting your weaker hand involved.

  2. Step 2

Rest the club in your hand with your palm facing upwards. Adjust your fingers so your index and middle fingers cradle the bottom curve of the club's surface.

  3. Step 3

Relax your arm so it falls by your side.

  4. Step 4

Swing your arm from your elbow and flip the club into the air using your wrist. Your goal is to make the club complete one end-over-end flip before catching with your other hand.

  5. Step 5

Catch the club with your other hand.

  6. Step 6

Regrip the club along its midline and repeat Steps 3 through 5 to toss it again.

Tips & Warnings
  • Catch the club toward the outside of your body, then scoop it down and inward when you toss it. This creates a circular pattern that gives your juggling rhythm and reliability.
  • Keep your elbows by your side as you juggle. Most of the motion should come from your forearms and wrists.
  • Start by connecting two tosses, then increase the number until you're comfortable with the technique.
