No matter how you've created it or what you've created it with, a handmade purse is more fashionable and fun with a few eye-catching adornments on the front. Consider several ways to decorate and personalize your bag to express your style.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Iron-on sheets
  • Fabric paint or pens
  • Foam stamps or stencils
  • Paintbrush
  • Fabric or pocket
  • Needle and thread
  • Embellishments
  • Ribbon or scarves
  1. Step 1

Decorate your purse with a favorite photo or clip art design by using your computer, printer and special iron on transfer sheets. Once you've selected an image through your photo editing program, output it on the transfer material (following the specific product's instructions), iron it onto your bag, allow it to cool, then peel the backing away. (See Resources)

  2. Step 2

Give your purse additional texture and personality with fabric paint. Apply it with foam stamps, pounce it over a stencil or paint a mini mural. Also try using fabric paint pens to doodle or add your signature.

  3. Step 3

Create a handmade pocket to hold small objects. Either cut and stitch a piece of fabric to the surface or sew a cute pre-made pocket to the purse instead. (See Resources)

  4. Step 4

Apply a border or small cluster of embellishments like felt flowers, buttons, patches, beads or metal charms. Attach them with small stitches in a contrasting color for added interest.

  5. Step 5

Add bling by outlining the purse or its straps with decorative gems or metal studs. You can also use them to create your monogram, a flourish or cool pattern on one side. Consider buying a device that allows you to punch through different types of fabric with ease. (See Resources)

  6. Step 6

Tie an item to the handle like colorful, textured ribbon or a scarf to coordinate with your outfit.
