Craps is one of the most popular games both in casinos and on online gaming sites. There are many different ways to play the game and different bets to place. It can all be a little overwhelming at first to play the Don't Pass bar in craps, but you can learn fairly easily.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Understand how the game of craps is played. Craps is a table game and has a variety of blocks on the table used for different game styles and betting practices. The game also dice and a shooter, though many people can bet at each table.

  2. Step 2

Know where the Don't Pass bar is located and how it works. It is located next to the pass line, but acts in the opposite way as placing a pass bet. You are betting against the shooter and with the house on this type of bet. For example, if a 7 or 11 comes out with a bet on the pass line, your bet would win. This means in the same situation, that bet is going to lose if your bet is on the Don't Pass bar.

  3. Step 3

Ask the dealer of a slow or nearly empty table to show you the ropes. They will often do this if you are unsure about how to play or how to place the Don't Pass bar. You can run through a couple of quick practice throws before putting in your money for real.

  4. Step 4

Practice playing the Don't Pass bar at home with a mock up craps table and your spouse or friend to gain confidence at playing the Don't Pass bar and playing craps overall. This is important, as the more comfortable you become with the game, the least likely you are to make a costly mistake when playing in a casino with a crowd and other distractions.

on 7/23/2008 The "don't pass" bet in craps is just that. The word "bar" refers to the 12, which is a push, or standoff, for this bet.

Each craps layout has a set of narrow bet boxes around its perimeter. These boxes are known collectively as the "don't pass line."

If you look at a craps layout, you will see that the layout actually says, "Don't Pass, Bar 12," with a picture of the 12 substituting for the number.

The don't pass bet wins automatically on 2 or 3, and loses automatically on 7 and 11. 12 is barred, as mentioned, meaning it is a push. If any other number is rolled, the don't pass money is now betting that that number will not repeat.

(In Northern Nevada and by the choice of some casinos scattered around the world, such as Australia, California and the Caribbean, the 2 is barred. The layout in this case reads, "Don't Pass, Bar 2.")

If the number repeats, the don't pass
