Step 1
Understand how the game of craps is played. Craps is a table game and has a variety of blocks on the table used for different game styles and betting practices. The game also includes dice and a shooter, though many people can bet at each table.
-
Step 2
Notice how the field block has the numbers 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 and 12. The field bet is a one roll, self-service bet that can be placed from any side of the table. All numbers, except the 2 and 12 which pay double, pay out at face value.
-
Step 3
Practice a field bet at home with a mock up craps table and your spouse or friend to gain confidence at placing a field bet and playing craps overall. This is important, as the more comfortable you become with the game, the least likely you are to make a costly mistake when playing in a casino with a crowd and other distractions.
-
Step 4
Ask the dealer of a slow or nearly empty table to show you the ropes. They will often do this if you are unsure about how to play or how to place a field bet. You can run through a couple of quick practice throws before putting in your money for real.
