Craps is one of the most popular games in casinos and at online gaming sites. There are many different ways to play the game and different bets to place. It can all be a little overwhelming at first, but learning how to place a field bet will help you understand the game better.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Understand how the game of craps is played. Craps is a table game and has a variety of blocks on the table used for different game styles and betting practices. The game also includes dice and a shooter, though many people can bet at each table.

  2. Step 2

Notice how the field block has the numbers 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 and 12. The field bet is a one roll, self-service bet that can be placed from any side of the table. All numbers, except the 2 and 12 which pay double, pay out at face value.

  3. Step 3

Practice a field bet at home with a mock up craps table and your spouse or friend to gain confidence at placing a field bet and playing craps overall. This is important, as the more comfortable you become with the game, the least likely you are to make a costly mistake when playing in a casino with a crowd and other distractions.

  4. Step 4

Ask the dealer of a slow or nearly empty table to show you the ropes. They will often do this if you are unsure about how to play or how to place a field bet. You can run through a couple of quick practice throws before putting in your money for real.
