Step 1
Understand how craps is set up and the general principles of the game. Craps is played on a table set up with different numbers in different squares. You roll a dice and depending on the numbers you get and the numbers you bet on, you can win or lose. There are three different games of craps to choose from and all have different odds.
-
Step 2
Know what a place bet is and how it works. A place bet is set up by the dealer based on your position at the table. Most of the numbers have different pay offs. It can be confusing, but it is wise to start at a beginner's table or have the dealer run through the betting and game practices before you start.

Step 3
Memorize the pay outs for each number. Once you have down the pay outs for each place bet, you will feel more comfortable and the game can run faster. On 4 and 10, for every 5 unit you bet, the pay out is 9. For the 5 and 9, every 5 gets seven. The 6 and 8 are bet in increments of 6, with a pay out of 7.

Step 4
Go over this a few times and practice at home before ever hitting the casino. You could use something like peanuts or M&M's to mark bets. Roll some dice and practice the pay outs. Once you have it down, you will feel much more confident at the craps table and will, inevitably, play better.
