Remote viewing is the purported ability to "see" events at a distance. Magicians perform acts of remote viewing to astonish the audience and set them up for bigger tricks. Remote viewing sets the overall magical tone for the performance. Explain to the audience that remote viewing is the ability to see through someone else's eyes.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Piece of paper

Introduction and set up

Step1
Borrow a watch from a client or friend. Assure them the watch will be safe and that you are just going to perform a little remote viewing magic.
Step2
Casually play with the watch and set the time to 9:51.
Step3
Pull out the watch stem while wrapping the watch in a napkin. This is the set up to the remote viewing action. By pulling out the stem, the time on the watch will remain at the preset time of 9:51.
Step4
Explain remote viewing to the audience and mention that remote viewing is basically being able to see the world through someone else's eyes.
Step5
Ask the volunteer to select a member of the wait staff.
Step6
Call the selected person to the table and whisper to them that you want them to ignore what you are about to say.
Step7
Explain, loudly enough so everyone can hear, to the person that he is to leave the room, set the watch to anytime he chooses and push in the stem again.

When the Volunteer Returns

Step1
Ask for a moment of silence from your audience. The goal is to have them believe you are concentrating on the watch, in order to see the time being set.
Step2
Tell the audience you can actually see her setting the time. Say she is changing her mind several times and then decides upon a time.
Step3
Tell everyone you will write down the time on the watch and place the paper face down again on the table.
Step4
Have the person set down the watch wrapped in the napkin when he returns.
Step5
Slide the watch over to your friend to read the time on the watch. She will say 9:51.
Step6
Turn the piece of paper over and show that you have written the matching time--9:51. This is the time to which you pre-set the watch. Be prepared to answer questions.
