1
Wash the rip. Take a break from gymnastics practice to make sure the rip is thoroughly cleaned. Prevent infection by using soapy, warm water to cleanse the wound.

2
Apply antibacterial ointment to expedite healing. Cover the hand rip with a sterile bandage so it is not exposed to further infection. Store the first aid supplies in your gymnastics bag so they are readily available.

3
Bag your hand overnight. Apply a generous amount of moisturizer to the rip and place your hand in a plastic bag while you sleep. This locks in the moisture and helps heal the wound. Choose moisturizers that have vitamin E as a key ingredient to aid healing.

Watch for signs of infection as the rip heals. Check for pus, yellowish discharge, redness or fever. If any of these symptoms occur, see your doctor as soon as possible.

Tips & Warnings
Prevent rips from forming. Wear leather hand grips regularly and let your hands cool down in between your gymnastics practice sessions. Use udder balm as a moisturizer. Vets use it to rub on cows' udders to prevent them from cracking. It has a similar effect on your hands.
Try Duo-derm. This is a much more expensive type of bandage that promotes quick healing. Ask your doctor for a prescription to reduce the cost.
