Writing a speech can be a harrowing experience by itself, but when you must write a speech about yourself, it is made much harder. Whether it is for a dinner in your honor or a graduation speech to inspire young students, you can write a great speech that speaks to the audience in the right way.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Be honest. When you have to write a speech about yourself, it may be tempting to lie or embellish the truth to impress the audience. That is not the right way to go about writing the speech. You should be honest, even brutally so at times, to endear the audience to oneself and get the right message across.

  2. Step 2

Use some creative writing techniques to tell a story. Just because a speech about yourself is fact-based doesn't mean that you can't use creative phrasing and plot twists to write the speech. It makes the story flow more easily and it can give your story a needed punch for effect and audience reaction.

  3. Step 3

Give the audience a reason to continue listening. It is important when writing a speech about yourself to include only the necessary information. Tell the story, but leave out anything that the audience does not need to follow you.

  4. Step 4

Grab their attention with the best part of the story first. If your brilliant accomplishments are the reason for the speech, don't hide them at the end of the speech. Open up with one or two early accomplishments, along with their anecdotes, to grab the audience's attention.

  5. Step 5

Write a speech about yourself with an eye on the overall theme of the story. Even if this speech is for a dinner in your honor, making fun of yourself or telling the embarrassing stuff along with the good, is a great way to show your human qualities behind the great achievements.

  6. Step 6

Get quotes and commentary from those who are closest to you. A great way to spice up a speech about yourself is to get another point of view on the topic. This is especially wise if you happen to be your own worst critic.
