How to Survive a Punk Show
Punk rock is angry, energetic and fast paced. Punk rock started out as a statement against established corporations and government bureaucracy by angry kids with something to say, and it's endured for over thirty years. Punk rock shows are loud, crowded and rude, so it's important to know how to survive a punk show before you attend.

1
Wear heavy boots instead of sandals to keep your toes safe. Punk fans "thrash," which involves two fans on opposite sides of the room throwing themselves into one another as hard as they can, and "pogo," which means jumping up and down in time to the music.

2
Stay sober when you attend punk shows. Alcohol impairs judgment, so lay off the booze and keep your head on straight. If you get drunk you might find yourself picking a fight.

3
Get out of the way so you don't get hurt. Punk fans thrash around a lot at shows, and they don't often consider the fans around them. If you're at indoor venue, position yourself along the wall so you're out of the path of anyone that tries to take a run at you. Stay a few feet back from the stage; mosh and thrash pits usually form right in front of the band, so holding back a bit will help keep you out of the fray.

4
Play nice. Fighting at a punk show ruins it for everyone. Not all punk fans are looking for trouble, but it's a good idea to avoid being overly aggressive or confrontational so that everyone can have a good time with no violence.
-
5
Avoid poser status. A poser is someone that tries to be something they're not and fit into a scene they know nothing about. Most punks have strong political and lifestyle beliefs and won't appreciate a poser trying to ingratiate themselves. If you're not into the scene, don't pretend to be. Be cool, be yourself and stick to what you believe in. After all, that's what punk rock is all about.
