The Pentium III PC CPU chip clocks in at speeds of more than 1 GHz. There are many other factors that effect how efficiently the Pentium III CPU and your computer system operate. Optimization of the programs you run, regular maintenance, scanning for viruses and scanning for spyware are the primary elements that aid your CPU in supporting a reliably fast system.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Add additional RAM to your PC. This is the single most effective way to increase your Pentium III PC's speed. It is also the most expensive, but in the end it is well worth the expense.
Step2
Delete unwanted programs. Programs you don't need junk up your hard drive and slow down operation of the Pentium III CPU.
Step3
Defrag your PC at least once per month so your CPU doesn't have to search for the programs you tell it to bring up. Defragging puts the programs back in order on the hard drive so the CPU knows where to find them. This speeds up the process of finding and bringing up a program.
Step4
Scan your PC for viruses and spyware at least once per month. This helps to protect your PC from virus sabotage and back door speed leakage.
Step5
Install an application accelerator utility program. Download one for free specifically for Pentium III CPUs from Intel's website.
Step6
Reboot your PC at least once per week. This refreshes the system.
