The next step after learning how to surf is learning how to surf like a pro. This is difficult to do, as it requires skill and natural ability. If you have a little of each you may be able to master this. Follow these steps to learn a few things that can assist you in learning how to surf like a pro.

  1. Step 1

    Practice your hop-up technique. You need to be able to fluently push yourself upwards with your arms and land on two feet. To learn to surf like a pro you can't come to a standing position on the board using one knee at a time.

  2. Step 2

    Ride the center of the face of the wave. Catch the wave and position your board so it faces away from the breaking point. Hop up quickly and surf the wave in the center, avoiding the top or bottom.

  3. Step 3

    Surf like a pro by pumping the surfboard to gain speed. Use your rear foot to apply pressure on the surfboard and climb the top of the wave. To go down the wave, push with your front foot.

  4. Step 4

    Learn new tricks to surf like a pro. You can learn these tricks by watching professional surfers on TV or in person. You can also learn tricks by taking surfing lessons. Log on to the Surf Schools website to find surfing lessons closest to you and learn to surf like a pro.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never surf alone. You are at risk for drowning if you are injured in a surfing accident.
