How to Make a Christmas Tree Look Organized

A Christmas tree makes a beautiful addition to any home's holiday decor. Its lights, garland and ornaments showcase your family's spirit and taste, and its evergreen aroma gives your home's air a fresh touch. As wonderful as they are, Christmas trees can be hard to organize. Years of collected ornaments and accoutrements can pile up and overwhelm its space.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Keep the tree in a relatively clutter-free room. It's much easier to make a tree look organized when it's in a clean space than when it's crammed between piles of furniture and books.

  2. Step 2

Start by adding the lights. Generally speaking, white lights look tidier than colored lights, especially when they're flashing. Add about one strand of 100 lights for each vertical foot of tree.

  3. Step 3

Apply the garland and tinsels next. Avoid over-doing this part of the decoration, and make sure you string them evenly across the tree. Strive to create a smooth, repetitive wave of garland that slowly winds around the tree.

  4. Step 4

Add the ornaments. This is where most trees start to look disorganized, so carefully consider where you place ornaments before hanging them. Save abnormally large or strangely-shaped ornaments for the back of the tree.

  5. Step 5

Settle the packages beneath the tree in an organized manner. If you can, position them so they radiate outward from the tree stand.

Tips & Warnings
  • Space large ornaments evenly throughout the tree, then add the medium and small ones in between.
