Trying out for a sports team is stressful, especially if it's you're first time trying out for a team. It's vital to remember that coaches are judging your skills and potential as a team player. The following steps can help you prepare and do your best to earn a spot on the team.

Step1
Find out the date of try-outs for the sport of interest. Research the rules and regulations of the sport and have at least a basic understanding of them. Resist the temptation to go out for a sport because someone else thinks it's a good idea.
Step2
Plan a fitness routine that complements the sport. Train to build strength and stamina. Talk to a trainer or fitness expert and get recommendations about kind of exercises that are best for the sport.
Step3
Acquire the right kind of shoes and equipment. Visit a sporting goods store and speak to a knowledgeable salesperson. Practice the skills needed to do well in the sport a minimum of 3 to 5 days each week. Attend a sports camp.
Step4
Show up on time on the day of tryouts to allow plenty of time to warm up. Arrive and leave with a great attitude. Be eager to learn and work with coaches and other players. Encourage other players.
Step5
Dress appropriately for tryouts. Bring along the proper safety equipment as well as a drink bottle, towel and other necessary gear as requested or required.
Step6
Maintain a high degree of focus on personal performance and the coach's instructions. Resist the temptation to monitor and evaluate the performance of other players. Stay on track and avoid focusing on little mistakes.

Give the best performance possible. Understand that cuts are going to be made by the coach. Be proud of your effort and accept the decision. Start immediately preparing for next time.
