Pets are becoming a big business, especially since pet owners spend more money each year on them. If you are an animal lover and are looking for a new career, then consider starting a small business that offers services for pets. You will soon be making money while spending time with animals.

    Become a pet sitter. This business usually involves going to the owner's home to feed, play or exercise the pet. This service is becoming popular since many owners do not like the idea of leaving their pets in an unknown kennel and feel uncomfortable asking family and friends to watch their pets while they are away.

  2. Step 2

    Take pictures of pets, if you are good at taking pictures. The first step is to determine where you will shoot the pictures. Decide if you have room for a home studio, or if you would you go to owner's houses or another setting, like a park. Perhaps you can make arrangements with your local pet shop as well.

  3. Step 3

    Start a mobile grooming business. Some people are too busy to bring their pet to a groomer and others are physically unable to, which brings a demand for this service. To begin, you will need professional training and will have to purchase a van equipped for grooming.

  4. Step 4

    Train dogs. Although many trainers are not certified, receiving the proper training will help you obtain clients and enable you to charge more. You can perform the training at your home or go directly to the clients as an added benefit for them.

  5. Step 5

    Clean up after animals. Becoming a pooper-scooper is probably the easiest service to start. All you need is a shovel and some plastic bags and you are ready to begin. You can also offer services to clean litter boxes, bird cages and aquariums.

  • You can make up flyers, place business cards in local stores or coffee shops and spread the word among family and friends about your new business.
  • Be prepared when new clients call by having a price list for services and answers to any obvious questions. Make sure your prices are competitive with other services in the area.
