Things You'll Need:
- Fabric
- Double-stick fusible web interfacing
- Rotary cutter
- Cutting mat
- Straight edge
- Old towel
- Ironing board
- Steam iron
-
Step 1
Select the fabric for the binding. It should be something compatible with the quilt as well as suitable to fusible web application.
-
Step 2
Choose the fusible web interfacing best suited for your needs or that you have the best experience using. Typically these interfacings come with paper on one or both sides. They also come in different weights.
-
Step 3
Cut the fabric into strips with the rotary cutter on the cutting mat. If you intend to use a decorative edge on the binding, cut it about ¼ inch wider than you normally do.
-
Step 4
Switch out your good rotary cutter blade for an older one. Lay the fusible web on the cutting mat and cut it into strips the same width as the binding. If you are using decorative edging, cut the fusible webbing about ¼ inch narrower than the fabric strips.
-
Step 5
Set up your ironing board. Cover it with an old towel or piece of fabric. Turn the iron on to warm up.
-
Step 6
Peel the paper backing off the fusible web. Place the fabric strip wrong side up on the ironing board. Place the fusible web sticky-side-down on the fabric strip.
-
Step 7
Fuse the webbing to the strip. Be careful to follow the directions on the fusible web package to avoid scorching the webbing or sticking it to your iron.
-
Step 8
Place the fused binding strip on the quilt. Press it into place.
