How to Get Mom to Forgive After Doing Something Stupid

The relationship between a parent and child can be a complicated one. That is especially true when the child does something stupid. And every child, at one time or another, will do something that is reckless, mindless or just plain stupid. The hard part comes when the child tries to get mom to forgive the stupid act and resume the relationship.

Instructions

    • 1

Understand why you did what you did. This can help you to explain it to your mom in honest terms. If you know what you did, but still try to defend your actions without understanding them, you will not win forgiveness.

    • 2

Apologize for the stupid thing. The apology must be genuine and heartfelt in order to have any chance at getting your mom to forgive you. If the stupid behavior was something big, bring a gift with you to the apology.

    • 3

Try to make up for the stupid act by doing good ones. Help your mom any way that you can so that she can see another side of you. You don't want her to think you're a person who is only capable of bad judgment. Show her the good things you can do. Doing housework every day is something that all moms will appreciate, especially when you step up and offer to help without any prompting or better yet, you do the work before she can start it.

Ask for her advice the next time you're contemplating doing something stupid. If she knows that you value her advice and judgment and want to use it to avoid doing something stupid again, she will be able to forgive the stupid thing you did in the past.
