Take Apart Your Machine
Step1
Turn your computer off and unplug it.
Step2
Look at the front of your processor and see if any wires are plugged in to your USB drives. If so, pull them out.
Step3
Go to the back of your processor and detach all of the wires. Organize your wires as you detach them, wrapping them with rubber bands. Write down which part of the computer each wire is from.
Pack Your Machine
Step1
Get two large moving boxes. You'll need them to transport your disassembled computer.
Step2
Set your monitor in one of the boxes and your processor in the other.
Step3
Place bubble wrap around your monitor and processor to soften any bumps along the way.
Step4
Pack the wiring and small components in the box that has the most room.
Step5
Seal your boxes for transport. Make sure the top and bottom of the box is well taped so the weight of the contents won't cause it to come loose or break.
Transport Your Machine
Step1
Determine how you're going to transport the computer, and how much room you need to do it.
Step2
Place your PC in the front, if you're moving by truck. Make your PC the first thing you carry into your new destination.
Step3
Put your packed PC in a secure position if you're traveling by car. Make sure the boxes are sitting on a flat surface.
Reassemble Your Machine
Step1
Find a good place to set up your computer.
Step2
Unseal your boxes. Place your monitor and processor where you want them.
Step3
Attach the wire connecting the processor and monitor first because it's the most important connection.
Step4
Plug in the cords connecting your keyboard and mouse in the appropriate back ports in the processor.
Step5
Set up any other components you have, such as a copier or fax machine, and plug them into the processor as well.
Step6
Reattach all power cords to the computer and components if needed, and plug the computer into the nearest power outlet.
