An outside keypad is a helpful gadget for getting into the garage and house but programming one can seem like a chore. Programming the Genie GWK-P is a cinch but before you start, locate the learn code button on the garage door operator hanging from the ceiling in the garage.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Clear the Keypad

Step1
Press and hold the "PROG" button.
Step2
Continue to hold "PROG" and then press the number "6" button.
Step3
Hold the "PROG" and number "6" buttons continuously and while holding them, press the up and down arrow button. As soon as you press the up and down arrow button, the light on the keypad should go out and you can release all three buttons. The keypad is now clear.

Programming the Keypad

Step1
Press and release the following buttons: "3," "5," "7" and "PROG." (The light will be blinking.)
Step2
Enter the pin number (or code) you want to use and push "PROG." (The light will blink a few times and go out.)
Step3
Go into the garage. Press and release the learn code button that you located prior to programming. (The red light near the learn code button will be blinking.)
Step4
Return to the keypad immediately and enter your pin number (code) again.
Step5
Press the up and down arrow button four to five times and the door will operate one of those times. Genie Customer Care will be glad to help if you need assistance. They can be reached at (800) 35Genie or (800) 354-3643.

Tips & Warnings

  • This keypad is Intellicode and will only program to Genie Intellicode garage door openers.
  • This keypad has a panic feature; for approximately the first 30 seconds after operating the door with the keypad, pressing any button will stop or reverse the door. This is convenient if you forget something. Merely push any button to go back inside. After 30 seconds, however, you must enter your entire pin number (or code) and press the up and down arrow button to operate it.
  • Do not program the keypad sitting on the ladder next to the antenna wire or it may not program.
  • Do not stand under the garage door operator when trying to program or it may not program.
  • Do not hold the learn code button in—merely press and release it. Holding the button in clears all devices of programming and you will have to re-program them all.
  • After pressing the learn code button, the light near it will blink for approximately 30 seconds. You must finish programming while the light is blinking.
  • Do not stand in front of the sensors at the bottom of the door when trying to operate the door and keep other people and pets out of the way as well
