How to Do a Short But Cool Handshake

Handshakes can go from formal to cool by adding your own unique flare. There are those people that go to the extreme when creating a handshake and make people nervous to even attempt a greeting with them. You can, however, create a cool handshake that doesn't scare people off and doesn't come across as ridiculous.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start with a normal handshake grip. If you want people to use your cool handshake the next time they greet you, you can't start off by confusing them.

  2. Step 2

Give one strong shake. Make sure you use a strong grip when you shake hands, otherwise your cool handshake turns into a wimpy handshake.

  3. Step 3

Lock thumbs with the other person and wrap your fingers around the other person's thumb. Both people's thumbs should point upwards and their fingers should wrap around the base of the other person's thumbs, their little finger almost touching the other person's wrist.

  4. Step 4

Pull the other person toward you so both people's right shoulders touch. You can decide whether or not you reserve this step for close friends or if anyone using your cool handshake can bump shoulders.

  5. Step 5

Release your grip and end the handshake.

Tips & Warnings
  • Give your handshake something extra by adding a cool greeting during the shoulder bump. Add something like, "What's up," or "Yo!" or another unique greeting used by you and your friends.
  • As cool as your handshake is, it is best to use a traditional handshake during interviews or when meeting your girlfriend's parents for the first time. Your friends may think it's great, but fathers and interviewers are looking for something more respectful.
