How to Do a Step Ball Change Leap

A step ball change is used in most all forms of dance. Step ball change leaps are very common to jazz dance routines. A step ball change leap is a basic move that is easy to master. Once you have the basic movement of the step conquered, practice increasing the height and length of your leap. Practice your step ball change with a trained professional, so they can critique your technique and help you improve the move.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Take a step forward with your right foot. Plant it on the floor. Position your arms with your left arm pointing straight forward and your right arm out to the side.
Step2
Rock back onto your left foot, briefly transferring your weight to it. Rock forward, redistributing your weight onto your right foot. Keep your arms in the same position.
Step3
Step forward with your left foot. Change the position of your arms so that your right arm is now pointing forward and your left arm is straight out the side.
Step4
Kick your right leg out in front of you, keep your knee straight. Switch the position of your arms at the same time that you kick your leg forward, your left arm in front and right out to the side.
Step5
Leap in the air as high as you can and with your legs open in a forward split position, stretched as far as they can go. Land first with your right foot. Slide your left foot on the floor until it is just behind your right foot.
Step6
Practice the steps slowly at first. Increase your tempo as the move becomes easier for you to execute.
