How to Improve Image Quality on an LCD Monitor

The easiest way to improve the image quality on your LCD PC monitor is to check that your equipment and connectors are compatible and that the connectors between the video card and the monitor are digital rather than analog. Replace analog cables with a DVI connector and reset the PC's monitor resolution setting.

Instructions

1. Determine if both the video card and the LCD monitor have digital audio input or DVI connectors. The connectors look like a white rectangle with a thin slot and holes for pins to connect into.

2. Get a male-to-male DVI connector. Your local electronics store will carry it. The connector needs to be 3 to 6 feet long.

3. Plug one end of the connector into the video card and the other end into the connector on the LCD monitor.

4. Turn on your PC and LCD monitor.

5. Set your LCD monitor to read DVI input. Your LCD monitor manual includes the instructions specific to your model. If you don't have your manual, try looking it up online, as most manufacturers now post their manuals on the Internet. If you can't find it online, call an electronics store and ask to talk to a tech. A good tech can talk you through the process specific to your model.

6. Reset the PC's resolution to the LCD monitor's highest rate. Your LCD monitor manual contains the instructions specific to your model.

7. Right-click on the desktop in Windows XP and click "Properties" to bring up the Display window.

8. Click on the tab labeled "Settings."

9. Use the slider in the Screen Resolution field. Drag the slider to the highest resolution setting.

10. Click "OK" to initiate the new settings. The LCD monitor now starts using that new resolution.
