1
Use a nanny cam. The Internet is full of various mini cameras that can be disguised in a book or a teddy bear on a shelf. Many of the disturbing footage seen on television of abusive nannies has been captured by hidden video camera. Not only does video tell the whole story of what is going on in your home while you are away, if you do discover abuse, it can be used to prosecute the person who is abusing your child.

2
Hire a plant. Pay another nanny or ask a friend to be in a place you know the nanny will be with your child. While an abusive nanny might not be physically abusive to your child in public, a well placed informant can recognize disturbing behaviors such as neglecting your child, talking in the cell phone, short tempers or negativity with your child. This type of report from a trusted source can help you know when to dig further for information on your nanny.

Use the Internet. There are websites where anonymous informants post infractions that are witnessed out of the home. It is amazing what some people observe paid childcare providers doing and saying to their young charges, and you just might get lucky and identify your child and nanny on the website. This venue is especially useful for urban moms whose nannies congregate on play dates or in public areas with other children and nannies.
