How to Embed a Font in a Word Document

If you aren't sure if another user or recipient of your Microsoft Word 2003 document has a particular font, then you can simply embed the font to ensure they see the document displayed in the font you have chosen. Although doing this will increase your file size, it will also ensure that your document looks the way you want it to.

      Start Microsoft Word 2003 and open an existing or create a new document that you want to embed a font into.

      Choose "Tools;" click "Options" to open the dialog box.

      Select the "Save" tab at the top of the "Options" dialog box to display the options related to saving in Microsoft Word.

      Click to add a checkmark before the "Embed TrueType fonts" option. It is located in the "Save Options" section of the "Options" dialog box.

      Add a checkmark before "Embed Characters In Use Only" if you have only used a few characters of the true type font in your current document. This will allow decrease your file size since you are only using a few characters of the font.

      Select "OK" at the bottom to close the dialog box and save the settings that embed the font into your current Word document.

      Continue to work on your Word document as usual. You will not be able to "see" that the font has been embedded into the document but this will ensure that the recipient or other users of the document will be able to view the font you are using.
