It's an easy process to convert a Microsoft Works document to a Microsoft Word document. It requires you to save the Works document as a RTF (Rich Text Format) document and then open it in Word.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Microsoft Word Version 6, 95 or 97

Step1
Start Microsoft Works and open the document that you want to convert to a Word document.
Step2
Choose the "File" menu and click "Save As" to bring up the "Save As" dialog box. Browse to choose which folder you would like to save this document in.
Step3
Under the "Save as Type" option in the "Save As" dialog box choose "Rich Text Format" or "RTF." This indicates that you want to re-save the current Work document as a Rich Text Format document that can open in Microsoft Word.
Step4
Start Microsoft Word Version 6, 95 or 97, choose the "File" menu and click "Open" to bring up the "Open" dialog box.
Step5
Use the "Look In" drop-down menu and file navigation to find the folder that contains the prior Works document that you have just saved in rich text format.
Step6
Choose "Rich Text Format" from the "Files of Type" drop-down list to display the rich text format documents that reside in the open folder.
Step7
Click to select the file you want to open and click the "Open" button to close the "Open" dialog box and open the newly converted works document in Word. You can now save the document in Word .doc format.
