How to Change the Startup Directory in Word

By eHow Computers Editor

Rate: (0 Ratings)

By default, the startup directory for Microsoft Word 2003 is set to be "My Documents." This means each time you go to save a new document, you will automatically be taken to "My Documents." If you regularly save your documents in another location, it will save you a lot of time to change that startup directory.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Microsoft Word 2003

Step1
Open an existing document or a new document in Microsoft Word 2003.
Step2
Choose the "Tools" menu and click on "Options."
Step3
Select "File Locations" in the "Options" dialog box to display the file location data for Microsoft Word.
Step4
Click to select "Documents" under "File Types" so it is highlighted in blue. The startup directory that is set currently is displayed under "Location."
Step5
Press the "Modify" button just under the "File Locations" list.
Step6
Browse to locate the directory that you want to set as the startup directory for Word documents. Once you have located it, click to select it.
Step7
Close the "Modify" box by clicking "OK." Verify that the new startup directory is listed under "Location" for the "Documents" file type. Close the dialog box and return to your document. The next time you save a new document in Word, you will be taken to your new startup directory.
