How to Use the Highlight Text Tool in Adobe Acrobat

The Highlight Text tool in Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional can be used to flag text for attention. This may be done because you want to flag text for revision or simply to draw the reader's eyes to the highlighted text.

Things You’ll Need:

• Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional

1. Start Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional and open a PDF from your files that contains text that you want to highlight so it will be flagged as needing attention.
2. Choose the "Highlight Text Tool" from the "Comment & Markup" toolbar. The button is the fourth button from the left and is depicted by a picture of a yellow highlighter and sheet of paper. Once you click this button your cursor will turn into an "I" beam inside of a box.
3. Click and drag over the text that you want to apply a highlight using the Highlight Text tool.
4. Release the mouse when you are finished making the selection. A yellow highlight will be applied to that text you have just selected.
5. Continue to highlight any text that you would like to flag for attention using the Highlight Text tool.
6. Click the "Select Tool" from the "Select & Zoom" toolbar when you are finished working with the Highlight Text tool.

Tips & Warnings

• If you don't see the "Comment & Markup" toolbar on the Acrobat screen, then you need to display it. To do this, choose the "View" menu, point to "Toolbars" and click on "Comment & Markup."
