How to Open a Bottle Without a Bottle Opener

Sometimes there is nothing better than a cold bottle of beer or soda on a warm and sunny day. It's maddening if you cannot open that bottle, especially if you find yourself without a bottle opener. The best way to open a bottle is to find a crevice and apply a little pressure. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Look around for crevices where you might be able to place the top of the bottle. These should feature hard surfaces that aren't easily scratched.

    • 2

Place the top of the bottle, the area where the lid is, directly into this spot. You need to make sure that the bottle is securely in place.

    • 3

Keep a firm grip on the bottle with one hand, while leveraging your weight with the other. Remember to balance your weight--after all, you are working as the bottle opener.

    • 4

Lift the bottle slowly, but firmly against this hole or crevice. It is helpful if you keep the bottle horizontal because this will prevent its contents from foaming up and spilling out of the bottle.

    • 5

Apply pressure until the lid of the bottle catches on the crevice and comes open. If it doesn't work, you may need to use more pressure or find a harder space to work with.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try looking for areas such as partially closed drawers and doorjambs to keep the bottle in place while you apply the pressure.

  • You can also use another bottle, a refillable lighter or another hard item to leverage the bottle rather than a crevice.

  • Never use your teeth to open a bottle. You can cause serious damage to your teeth.
