How to Make a Glow in the Dark Hobo Costume
The hobo is a classic costume choice. It can easily be put together with things you have around the house. To make it extra-fun for kids, not to mention more safe while trick-or-treating at night, add some glow in the dark elements.

1
Use cast-off or donated items of clothes to create your hobo costume. Loose-fitting pants such as pajama pants, a dirty white T-shirt and a baggy sports coat are the essentials. Roll up the bottoms of the pants and the sleeves of the coat. Add a shabby black bowler hat.

2
Make the clothes look especially worn by sewing patches in a variety of shapes, sizes and fabrics all over the pants and the jacket. Have your kids draw on or outline the patches with glow in the dark fabric paint. They can smear the fabric paint all over the patch for a larger glow in the dark spot, or just draw figures and words that they will be able to see once the lights go off.

3
Add a stick with a bandana tied on the end as a pouch to your hobo costume. Make the pouch out of a piece of fabric printed with glow in the dark shapes, which is easy to find in fabric stores and on the Internet around Halloween. See link in Resources for a supplier. Attach light sticks from novelty shops to the stick, using tape or string.

4
Attach a pin with LED lights to the band of the hat or the lapel of the jacket for some extra twinkle in the dark.
