Rollerblading is great exercise and can provide an excellent way to travel without spending money on gas. Rollerbladers also enjoy skating at skateboard parks, where skaters are not only traveling but trying to impress each other by performing tricks. Whether you are traveling and need to jump over an obstruction in the road, or tricking at a park, take a few of these tips to jump on inline skates.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Wear a helmet and knee and elbow pads if you are going to try jumping on your skates. You can always jump off of a skateboard while doing tricks, but rollerblades are tied tightly to your feet and once in the air, you can't ditch them.

  2. Step 2

Bend your knees slightly as you approach your target. Keep your knees bent to prevent a hard landing that can jar your joints. You will also retain more control of your skating if you keep your knees slightly bent at all times.

  3. Step 3

Pull your feet up as you go into a squat position to get a jump going from a solid surface. You will need to rely on muscles in your glutes as well as your abs and legs to get airborne.

  4. Step 4

Use a ramp or skate to the end of a curb to get airborne without having to pull on your hamstrings. Prepare for the jump by squatting lower to give your body a more controllable center of gravity.

  5. Step 5

Prepare for the landing by holding out your arms to balance yourself once you hit the ground. Keep moving at this point as will be easier to keep yourself upright. Adjust your feet as you land so that one foot is slightly ahead of the other foot.
