How to Set a Brush as a Preset in Photoshop
There are thousands of options for creating your own custom brush in Adobe Photoshop CS3. If you have spent the time to create one of these brushes, it makes sense that you want to save the brush as a preset that you can use later. Keep reading to find out how you can create a custom brush and set it as a preset in Photoshop.

Start Adobe Photoshop CS3 and open an existing document from your files or create a new blank document.

Choose the "Brush" tool from the Photoshop toolbox on the left side of the screen. The "Brush" tool shares a button with the "Pencil" and "Color Replacement" tools, so you may need to switch tools if the "Brush" tool isn't visible. The properties for the "Brush" tool will be displayed at the top of the Photoshop screen on the Options bar, which is located just below the Menu bar.

Use the settings on the Option bar to create a custom brush. You can set the brush size, mode, opacity and flow by using the drop-down boxes and list on the Option bar.

Click the arrow just to the right of the brush preset selection you are using. Click the arrow in the circle on the top right side of the drop-down box that appears. From the shortcut menu that appears, choose "New Brush Preset." The "Brush Name" dialog box will open.

Type a name for the new brush you have created and wish to save as a brush preset in the "Name" text box of the "Brush Name" dialog box.

Click the "OK" button to close the "Brush Name" dialog box and return to your Photoshop document. You can now choose the brush you have saved as a preset from the brush preset drop-down box.

Tips & Warnings
You can switch tools in the Photoshop toolbox by pressing and holding the mouse button over a tool that shares the button with another tool. A list of tools will pop-up, and you can click on the other tool you want to use.
