Step 1
Decide what kind of ATV you are looking for. There are so many different styles and brands of ATV that if you know what you want before you start looking, your search will be much easier. Honda, Kawasaki and Arctic Cat offer a wide variety of four wheelers, sure to meet anyone's requirements.
-
Step 2
Find the used ATV that you would like to buy. It is best to buy from someone you know personally or from a dealership. You are usually guaranteed to get a good deal on a good ATV from these individuals. Look in the classified sections of newspapers or on bulletin boards at ATV dealerships.
-
Step 3
Ask someone who is familiar with ATV's to accompany you to view the ATV. This may be the owner of an ATV dealership or even an ATV mechanic.
-
Step 4
Inspect the ATV completely, including the underside of the vehicle, the frame, the oil and the alignment. Also, check the air box that is located under the seat. Water in this box can cause severe damage to the motor. Check for rust in the gas tank. Ask about miles and hours used on the ATV.
-
Step 5
Decide if you are getting a fair deal for the ATV. Ask the owner what work has been done to the ATV and if there are any warranties on it.
-
Step 6
Make a deal. Keep in mind the average costs of used versus new ATVs.
