The skater turn is a variation of the single spin done in ice skating. The dancer dips her shoulder down and spins one revolution while balanced on one foot. For this dance move, you'll need to master the whipping motion that gets you enough momentum to complete the turn.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Balance on your dominant foot. Lift your dominant arm up and out so you can use it to whip your body around.

  2. Step 2

Raise your non-dominant leg so it's slightly bent at the knee and parallel with the floor.

  3. Step 3

Dip your dominant shoulder and move your arm down arm with it, as if you're throwing a Frisbee at the floor. Lean into your dominant side as you do this. This whipping motion should build enough momentum to propel your body through the spin.

  4. Step 4

Move through the spin, keeping your arm, back and leg extended in a straight line that's parallel to the floor.

  5. Step 5

Whip your dominant arm through the movement so you build enough momentum to spin through one rotation. If you do it right, you'll finish the skater turn by facing the same direction you started.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you dip dominant shoulder, rotate it down and back up as if you're scooping sand with a shovel.
