Model, singer and savvy self-promoter, Tila Tequila, has mastered the art of marketing through social networking. Often referred to as "the most popular artist on MySpace," Tila Tequila accepts thousands of friend requests per day, and her MySpace profile page has received over one billion hits. It would seem that getting kicked off Friendster was the best thing that ever happened to Tila Tequila, because it paved the way for her MySpace empire.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Invite everyone and their dog to be your friend. When Tila first joined MySpace back in 2003, she "mass emailed between 30,000 and 50,000 people and told them to come over. Everybody joined overnight."

  2. Step 2

Interact with your MySpace friends. Tila takes the time to respond to as many of her friends as possible. Tila says, "There's a million hot naked chicks on the Internet.... There's a difference between those girls and me. Those chicks don't talk back to you."

  3. Step 3

Assert yourself so that people don't take advantage of you. Tila is generous with her time online, but that doesn't mean she lets other people use her for their own promotion. She explains, "I always have people writing me asking me to post up advertising bulletins for them since I can reach lots of people...dude...f*ck off!"

  4. Step 4

Take advantage of every available MySpace feature. Tila posts videos of her latest songs, promotional posters for her latest TV shows and maintains a personal blog, and all from her MySpace profile.

  5. Step 5

Offer MySpace add-ons for your fans. Tila has a selection of widgets and skins bearing her likeness available for anyone to use. With this type of promotional material hosted on other people's MySpace pages, Tila is able to reach an even broader audience.

  6. Step 6

Be dedicated to self-promotion. Tila says, "This is my job.... That's how you maintain your popularity and keep it alive."
