How to save money on groceries by knowing your stores policies

Knowledge is power - the more you know the more you can save at the grocery store. Each store has their own set of rules and by know what is acceptable at your store; you open more opportunities for saving more money. Here is a list of questions to help you get to know your store better.

Step1
Check to see if your store offers a shopper's reward card. Ask what the benefits are to having such card.
Step2
Some stores, even if they normally don't accept expired coupons, will allow you to use expired coupons with a rain check, as long as the coupon wasn't expired when the rain check was issued. Check with your store to see if this is acceptable to them.
Step3
Check and see if your store offers double or triple coupons. How often do they double or triple coupons and are there any limitations?
Step4
Some stores will price match competitors prices and accept competitors coupons. If your store offers this find out what the policy is and if there are any restrictions.
Step5
Internet printed coupons are making a come back. A lot of stores who didn't accept them before are accepting them now. Check with your store peiodicity to see if they are accepting internet printed coupons.
Step6
If your store has store coupons, check and see if they allow you to use a manufacture coupon with a store coupon for the same product.

Tips & Warnings

  • Cashiers don't always know the store policies. If you have been told in the past that something is acceptable and a cashier won't accept it, don't be afraid to call a manager.
