The first and most important thing to remember is that he/she does not mean to make mistakes, but in any job, mistakes can and do happen. Now how often does the same thing happen is another issue. Now you have to take steps to correct it, what do you do. First ask for a time when you can meet with them privately. Never address a work issue in a public forum, it makes you look bad and embarrasses the employee.

At the time of the meeting, start out with the positive, John/Carol, I see that your a hard worker and I really like the way you perform your daily tasks, There is one thing I do need to talk with you about and maybe we can come up with a plan that will eliminate this problem.

Eye contact is very important as well, It shows you are sincere and are truly trying to help the employee. Listen to his/her side of the story and go from there. Most times the employee is unaware they are doing anything wrong. After this meeting hopefully things will be better for you and for them.
Be sure you Thank them for meeting with you and let them know that if they have any issues, your door is open.

Because you have had to go to these steps, It is important that you document for your records, the date and time of the meeting and what was discussed. Then if you have to go further you will have a reference.
