Gas prices are increasing and household budgets are decreasing. Learn how to decrease your gas consumption while driving.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    When filling up your gas tank, do not top of your gas tank after the auto shut off signal.

  2. Step 2

    Use a high quality multi grad oil.

  3. Step 3

    Keep your car properly maintained. Have it tuned every 5,000 to 10,000 miles ore every six months.

  4. Step 4

    Keep the brakes on your care properly adjusted, since dragging brakes will diminish fuel efficiency.

  5. Step 5

    Turn off the engine if the car is idling for more than a few minutes. A car can use a gallon of gas for every one to two hours it idles.

  6. Step 6

    Avoid City driving, and select the shortest route to your destination.

  7. Step 7

    Consider walking when possible.

  8. Step 8

    If you have a long commute to work, consider joining a car pool.

  9. Step 9

    When purchasing a car select a light colored car with tinted glass. It will stay cooler in hot weather.

  10. Step 10

    Use radial tires, which improve fuel economy. For long distance driving, inflate them three or four pound above the recommended pressure, this can save you up to ten percent on gas. Although do not go above you maximum pressure allowed in your tire, due to loss in traction.
