Step 1
Look for a helmet that are approved by the American national Standards Institute or the Snell Memorial Foundation.
-
Step 2
Make sure the helmet fits properly. The helmet should touch the head at the crown, sides, front, and back. Helmet should very little to none wiggle room. You can use the sizing pads usually included with the helmet to fine tune the fit.
-
Step 3
When buying a helmet try it on first if possible. Push to the sides, front, and back. If it moves enough to create a gap between the head and the pad, you will need thicker pads. If it is still loose, choose a smaller helmet.

Step 4
Adjust the straps. Make sure they are comfortable and not hard to fasten.
