Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Use One or All of These
- Computer
- Internet Service
- Word or Works program
- Jenny Craig eTools
- Pen and Paper
Step1
A Food Journal helps keep a record of your daily successes and emotional well-being during the process of losing weight. You can later see what works and does not work for you personally. It also helps to keep you encouraged if you have a down time and will motivate you to get back on track.
Step2
Journaling Sources
You can choose from several options in keeping your journal. Jenny Craig provides a Journal in their eTools. They provide this free service. All you need to do is go to http://www.jennycraig.com/etools/ and register for an account.
Another great source is at 43 Things. You can join the other bloggers that are doing their food journaling together. It is located at http://www.43things.com/things/view/144504/keep-a-food-diary.
Start a free blog about your endeavors.
Write your Food Journal hand and pen. Make daily notations in your notebook.
Keep your journal on your computer in MS Word or Works. Works has some very nice templates available just for journaling.
Step3
Record Your Eating Habits
Record the day and time of your meals, and snacks
Step4
Keep track and list the serving size of your meals and snacks. Put each type of food on a different line. For example; a sandwich. Bread on one line, meat on another, cheese on another, drink on another, and so on.
Step5
Now list why you ate the food. What were your mood and your feelings at the time? Did you eat because you were hungry, or were you sad? Were you angry? Were you anxious? Also, list where you ate your meal or snack.
Step6
Understanding Your Journal
After a week or so, look at it. Why are you usually eating? Is it always because you are hungry? What is the routine? When do you eat? Are you on a schedule or is it a hit and miss?
