How to know the difference between an allergies and a sensitivity to a cosmetic.

There are so many different formulated cosmetics on the market today and with all of them using different ingredients, that it is surprising that some if not all of us develop a sensitivity or allergy to one or more of the ingredients. The procedure for in which cosmetics are created and developed are with controlled and screened evaluations. Many of us can apply anything to our skin with confidence assuming that any and all cosmetics are proven to be safe. Even so, with knowing this, after using a product for months or even years it is not entirely impossible for us to develop a sensitivity or allergy. If a reaction did occur it could be a true allergy or more than not a common sensitivity, slight or severe.

1. Allergic reactions to a cosmetic can be very rare. These reactions can be isolated. Usually these allergic reactions are due to a substance that you have been already introduced to. You can avoid reaction by not using that cosmetic that may contain the allergen that caused the reaction.
2. Sensitivity to a cosmetic are so much more common but yet more confusing because it is usually a reaction to more than one substance. Sensitivities tend to be more difficult to isolate. As odd as it may seem, sensitivities tend to be found in your fair skinned or red haired individuals. These are your sensitive prone people. If you fall into this category you may want to stay with unscented products. If you fall into this area you might find it best to read labels before purchasing products. Remember this, it is not only possible for you to outgrow a sensitivity, but that any skin type can become sensitive as it matures.
3. These are some allergens that are commonly known to create sensitivity.
   LANOLIN,VEGETABLE AND MINERAL OILS: BABY OILS,MOISTURIZERS AND SOME SHAMPOOS AND CONDITIONERS use these oils. They are inexpensive and are commonly used in certain products. A lanolin reaction usually produces a dry scaly rash and can produce inflammation.
   Lanolin and Mineral oils most generally just lubricate the treated area because of the molecular structure is to large to penetrate.
   Vegetable and mineral oils are linseed oil, olive oil, sesame oil, cocoa butter. These are less likely to cause allergies, but due to their heavy concentration of oil they are most likely to cause breakouts.

• If you tend to be sensitive to products and especially parfumes always read the labels of any products before you purchase. Remember, the first few ingredients listed are the ones that the product has the highest volume of. Ex...water
