Changing the water/ice filter in a refrigerator is much like changing a lightbulb, with just a few extra steps.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start by locating the water/ice filter in the back of the refrigerator. They are normally located at the far back of the top shelf.

  2. Step 2

Remove anything on the top shelf of the refrigerator that might be in the way of the filter. This allows for a much faster and easier process.

  3. Step 3

Twist and remove the housing of the filter. The housing will have small arrows showing which way to turn, but it's normally to the left.

  4. Step 4

Once you have the filter housing out of the refrigerator, remove the existing filter and throw it away.

  5. Step 5

Open the new filter (required filter number can be found in your owner's manual or in or around the location of the filter) and place it in the housing, in the same position as the filter you removed.

  6. Step 6

Return the housing to the refrigerator, and twist back in place.

Tips & Warnings
  • Pay careful attention when replacing the filter housing, so as not to cross-thread when screwing back in. This will cause leaks and possible damage the threads on the filter housing.
