Have a lot of scratch paper in the office? Do you like to write or sketch things down but often have to resort to post its or loose paper that gets lost? Let's keep the office clutter down, be environmentally friendly by recycling, and have a place for our creativity all in one!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • at least 10 sheets of scrap paper, blank on 1 side.
  • a piece of scrap paper that has a more interesting printed side than the rest for the binding.
  • a good metal stapler (not the mini plastic ones)
  • double stick tape or glue stick
  • a flat surface

How to make a scratch paper sketch or notebook

  1. Step 1

Start with either letter size or tabloid size paper. Fold each piece of paper in half, with the blank side out.

  2. Step 2

Stack your pieces of paper together, with the folded side on the right and the open side on the left. Now staple the open side together, one at the top, one in the middle, and one at the bottom. Make sure your staple is going vertically, in the direction of the spine. This is the main part of the book.

  3. Step 3

Take another piece of scratch paper and fold it in half horizontally. Open it back up, and fold the outer sides in, using the line front the first fold as a guide. Do one more fold in on both sides. This will be your spine.

  4. Step 4

Put double stick tape on the edge of your book, where the staples are. You will be taping or gluing the spine on to hide the staples. Make sure that you put the spine on very carefully and in line with the rest of the book, otherwise, it will look messy. If you taped it, you are all done! You can put a heavy book on it to make it even flatter. If you glued it, I would set a heavy book on it on a flat surface and wait at least a couple of hours for it to dry. Now you can go out and doodle!

Tips & Warnings
  • Do each step as neatly and straight as you can. If you have messy steps, you will end up with a messy outcome.
  • Try using different types of paper
  • Try using different materials for the cover like cardboard, chipboard, etc.
  • Try using different materials for the spine!
  • Be careful when working with staples.
  • Do not glue your spine to the larger book that you are using to hold it in place while it dries.
