The surgeon general recommends that we get at least 30 minutes of brisk exercise a day, but is that really enough to keep us fit and healthy?

I can't maintain my weight unless I do at least 10,000 steps a day, which depending on your stride length is about 5 miles.

Let me show you how I walk 10,000 steps everyday.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pedometer
  • Walking Shoes
  • Wrist Watch
  • Bandaids
  • Cotton
  1. Step 1

Before my husband gets up, I put on bandaids and cotton over any blisters,go to the living room and walk 15-20 minutes.

  2. Step 2

After cooking breakfast and while my husband is grooming, I walk another 15-20 minutes.

  3. Step 3

After taking a shower, I go outside and walk for 30-45 minutes. My pedometer now reads almost 8000 steps.

  4. Step 4

Going to the grocery store and housework puts me over the 10,000 step mark.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have your walking shoes by the bed when you get up
  • Keep looking for ways to incorporate extra walking into your routine. Park further away from your destination. If you're cooking, walk around while you're waiting for your dish to finish. Walk while talking on the telephone.
  • Keeping your shoelaces tied tight will help prevent blisters
  • Take a day off at least once every ten days to rest knees and feet, preferably once a week.
