They're everywhere...mold spores. Sometimes you can't see them until its too late. They especially love to collect in warm, damp areas....like on children's bath toys!!! REE! REE! REE!...uh, thats suppose to be Psycho violin sounds. Just follow these simple steps to keep that unsightly,as well as unhealthy menace we call mold at bay.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Sponge
  • scrub brush
  • bleach cleaner
  • water
  • elbow grease

Step1
And you actually bathe in this tub? Are you nuts? First and foremost...take a look at your bathtub. In order to keep bathtoys clean, you have to start at the source. Is your tub one that looks like a penicillin breeding ground? Do you have mushrooms sprouting? Does your white tile look like a checkered flag used at the Indianapolis 500? If yes, lets start there.
Step2
A thorough spraying with a bleach-based cleanser works best. Remove all items in and around the tub area...namely toys (i.e. duckies, rubber penguins, boats, drowned Barbies, Nemo the fish, Shamus, shampoo bottles, toasters (just checking to see if you are paying attention), and anything else nautical in nature. Place these items in a container filled with HOT soapy water with a couple teaspoons of Clorox bleach...let soak. Then place rubber gloves on, and spray the entire tub area (including tiles) with a bleach cleaner...Mold hates bleach!
Step3
A cleanser such as this will work nicely After letting the bleach solution soak in for a moment or two, scrub, scrub, scrub like there's no tomorrow! Some additional application of the bleach spray may be required on those hard to clean areas.
Step4
Ahhh....back to a fresh and clean bathtub...with nice and clean toys! After a good, vigorous scrubbing, wash down all the walls and sides of the tub with hot water, then finish with a cool rinse. Remember all those toys you put in a container of soapy water and bleach? Now is the time to individually scrub and rinse each toy. The bleach will disinfect the toys and keep everyone splashing!

Tips & Warnings

  • If necessary, use an old toothbrush to get those hard to get places.
  • You can even use wipes w/ bleach to clean off the toys. Just make sure to rinse thoroughly.
  • Repeat this every week to ensure no more return of the mold!
  • Be sure to spray the shower curtain...or better yet, throw it in the washer
  • You might want to wear safety goggles along with your gloves
  • Rinse, rinse and rinse...did I mention to rinse?
