Mold on (or in) baby's favorite rubber duckie can dampen the mood in the bathtub, but have no fear! Getting rid of the mold really is as easy as pushing a button.
Assess the damage - is the toy completely overgrown or just a little spotty? If it's completely overgrown submerge it in a half and half solution of hydrogen peroxide and water for an hour. If it's just spotty, skip this step.
Step2
Pop the toy in the dishwasher. Easy right? Use a little extra detergent like you would for greasy pots and pans.
Step3
Run the heavy-duty wash cycle and voila! The toy should come out good as new and the dishwasher can even get into the holes you can't reach. If there is still some spotting, re-soak ducky in peroxide and run it through again.
Tips & Warnings
Soaking toys once a month in a sink with hydrogen peroxide and water will prevent mold in the first place and it's totally safe for baby.
Make sure to rinse the peroxide solution off before baby gets the toy. It's non-toxic in small amounts, but could give baby a tummy ache.

on 5/11/2008 I like these ideas, but don't have a dishwasher. I'll definitely start the monthly hydrogen peroxide soaks for the toys though!
