Apply a little baking soda to wet toys and scrub if you don't have any boric acid, handy. (Boric acid is said to be only as toxic as table salt. However don't eat it or breathe it into your nostrils). Then wipe all areas of toys or bowls with your hand or a cloth. If you feel a slippery slime on the surface with your hand, you know the job is not yet finished.
Step2
To get more serious use boric acid and peroxide, if you don't have these products handy, use a powdered hand cleaner that contains boric acid.
Step3
Wipe, dry, and store the toys away from the tub on a dry shelf.
Tips & Warnings
If you continuously leave the toys in or around the tub, you'll may need to clean them weekly.
Rinse the tub and toys thoroughly if you use any chemicals for cleaning.

I like how you stress that it requires some good old elbow grease and a regular schedule to keep these clean. I'll try the baking soda first, Comet might be a bit too harsh for things that might end up in little ones mouths? Thanks for the tips!
