How to Have Fun Test Driving a Car

Buying a motor vehicle is nothing to take lightly. You will depend on it for reliable, functioning transportation and want to make sure you’re not picking a lemon when you make your purchase. Test-driving can be a way for a prospective buyer to enjoy their potentially new car before even slapping down some cash.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Car
  • Open space
  • Willing dealership
  • License
  • The need for speed running through your veins
Step1
Perform and acceleration test. It’s extremely important (and fun) to ensure that the car can live up to its zero to 60 billing. Pretend you’re racing a dragster and rev the engine a bit before slamming on the gas.
Step2
Test out the brakes. Some people say a good way to figure out whether the car’s alignment is straight is by slamming on the brakes and to if the car drifts. Remove your hands slightly from the steering wheel in this scenario, but keep them close enough to regain control should the alignment turn out to be faulty. You should make sure that this stop is swift enough to leave skid marks.
Step3
Test how “this baby corners.” Car owners need to know the limitations of their vehicles. If you’re not test-driving an SUV, find a safe, open road to whip around turns at ever-increasing speeds. You may want to pretend someone is chasing you and that will add to the enthusiasm.
Step4
Practice dodging wayward children. This test is best performed in a parking lot without any cars. A mega-church during the weekday is a good choice. Drive straight and fast, then try to make a last second avoidance. If you’ve got a friend riding shotgun, they can yell out “now!” and you’ll pretend someone has jumped out into the road. Swing the car left then right to make sure it’s the responsive vehicle you’ll need on those dangerous, unpredictable roads.

Tips & Warnings

  • The larger and more remote the roads are, the better the test-driving venue. Stadium parking lots are a good choice.
  • Do not wreck the car.
