1
Choose the best wall location for your collection. Pictures are usually hung at eye level, but if you're 'height impaired' like me, check with someone of average height to get an idea of what 'average' eye level is. Otherwise, most people will be bending down to check out your display!

2
Choose picture frames that compliment the colors and style of your room. They don't all have to be the same, but you don't want to combine colors that clash or styles that are from different centuries!

3
Choose photographs or prints that make you feel good! Happy, family pictures are priceless and shouldn't be stuffed in a shoe box. Put them out there for all your guests to admire. You'll feel good too every time you look at them and remember those fun times at the zoo!
-
4
Now that you've decided what you want to frame and hang, lay the frames out on the floor near the wall where you are going to hang them. Play with the frames; move them around until you get a layout that you like.

Now, take some measurements! Follow this easy rule to determine the height at which your frames could be hung:
Divide the height of the frame by two, subtract the distance of the top of the frame to the hanging device. Add this number to 'average' eye level. The sum is the height at which the hanger should be nailed to the wall!

When hanging frames in a line, hang the middle frame first and work outwards for a centered and equally spaced arrangement.
Use a level, tape measure and pencil to mark flat, even heights on the wall.
Create a straight line between two points by pulling a piece of string tightly between two push pins. This will serve as a guide when hanging frames at the same height.

Sit back and enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
Light pencil marks can be helpful when marking corners where you want the next frame to hang. You can later use a CLEAN eraser to remove these marks from many painted surfaces.
If you're going to hang pictures with your spouse or significant other, be patient! Be open minded! No, you are not always right!

Thanks for a great article. I have to admit that my mom was an expert at this and I never really learned how she did it. Thanks! -
