How to Soft Reset Your iPod Classic
If your iPod Classic freezes up or otherwise misbehaves, perform a soft reset on the device. While a hard reset restores your iPod to its factory condition, a soft reset simply reboots the device's software. Unlike a hard reset, performing a soft reset on your iPod does not delete any music or other content from the device, and the iPod does not need to be connected to a computer for the soft reset to work. Use a soft reset as the first step in troubleshooting problems with your iPod.
