How to dare to dream

Throughout my life (as I write this I am moving into my 81st year) the people who know me best have seen something in me that causes them to call me a dreamer...

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
How to dare to dream... Sometimes they tell me I’m a dreamer in what amounts to a scornful tone of voice. You know how it is, they may say with mockery: “You dreamer you!” Other times I hear a bit of unbelieving wonder – (or is it critical amusement?) – in their comments like: “Dream on, dream on…” In fact, just the other day one of my daughters said to me: “Oh Dad! Be real!” Real? I thought to myself…really now!
Step2
Search for your star! Anybody can be “real,” like a matter-of-fact, realist, a down to earth ”nuts and bolts,” bean-counting kind of person. How boring! As for me, I find great joy, excitement and expectancy as I excitedly anticipate the achievement of my rather “far out” dreams. What’s more, I can back up my conviction that I am on the right track with some Bible scripture such as:
Step3
Visualize your star - then: go for it! Wow! What a ride! “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and very courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go!” (Joshua 1:9). Or, in 1 Thessalonians 5:15 we’re told: “Be joyful, always: pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Or again “I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed…” (Matthew 7:20), or in Acts 2:17…”your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams…”
As a young man, I saw visions, now as an old man, I continue to dream dreams. It’s the only way to the good life – for me.
So, whatever your circumstances, I urge you to “see visions” and “dream dreams.” Once you have a dream, go for it! It may take weeks, months or even years of prayer and work to achieve your dream but don’t give up! Keep on trying! All during your time of working toward your dream you will find yourself living a life that is: vibrant, active and anything but boring!
In fact, it will be a time when you’ll find yourself working and moving – one –day-at-a-time – toward the success that is your dream. So, remember, don’t quit. Don’t give up. Always put prayer first and be sure to ask God to help you find your truest interest as you constantly learn –how to dare to dream!
